  • I hope you are fascinated by this email

    Do you find me entertaining?

    I certainly do.

(btw, if you don't find me entertaining, the unsubscribe link is down there 👇 somewhere)

So, I'll assume you do. It will be easier for me, that way.

The alternative is to assume you don't. That's what I tend to do.

It's probably what you do, too, when you communicate with people. That's my best guess, having observed lots of people communicating. Most of them do not think they are very entertaining, and it shows.

Then, someone like Donald Trump comes along, and people HATE him, because he knows how entertaining he is.

Now, I'm going to segue into talking about meditation, because I want you to buy my meditation course. Why do I want that? Because it's what I'm selling. Why am I selling it? Because some people said they wanted it. Why aren't I selling something other people want? I don't know, maybe I am. But, probably not.

    Hope you find this entertaining.

My guess is that you find it only mildly entertaining, rather than COMPLETELY FASCINATING.

That's because you are so incredibly disconnected from your reality.

I'm just writing to a computer screen. I'm in a room by myself.

Is it really any wonder that I sound this way?

(Come on Michael, spell it out. No one understands a word you're saying.)

OK, let me spell it out for you. Click on this link, then click “Buy Now”, and pay me money:

If that's not clear, let me know. But, I'm not sure how I can be more explicit.

  • Social media detox? No thanks.

You don't need to detox from social media.

Social media is here to stay. Get used to it.

Instead, you can find a way to live with it. Enjoy it. Make peace with it.

You know you want to. That's why you're so addicted to it. You want it. Don't pretend otherwise.

Take ownership of your social media posts. You can use it for your own benefit. It doesn't have to be just pictures of nature and food. You can use it to EXPRESS YOURSELF.

But, of course, this is hard. You don't want to put yourself out there like that. You don't want to show the parts of you that other people may not like.

    Other people….I hate them.

What would you post if you didn't have to worry about what your friends would think of you? What would that free you up to do?

    What gets you excited?

At the end of your life, what will you regret not having said?

  • My Sunday morning workout routine

Every Sunday morning, I play the organ at a church. Since March, it's been weird.

At first, we were meeting on Zoom. Now, we're meeting in person.

Not sure which I like better. I don't like wearing a mask (Calm down…I've been wearing it around other people. Still don't like it.)

I don't like following strict schedules (I didn't realize how much I hated this until I stopped doing it.)

I don't like wrestling with audio technology when people are depending on it working in real-time, and especially not when there's no way to monitor the sound on my end.

I used to direct the choir, too, but they haven't been meeting yet this fall. I don't know how we're going to handle that. It's a big question mark.

The services are still being broadcast on Zoom. I've been singing while playing the organ, for the benefit of the people at home.

I'm not used to singing at the organ. It's confusing, physically. Trying to balance on the bench while breathing in a way that works for singing. Very odd. (balancing on an organ bench is weird enough to begin with, since you play with your feet as well as your hands…it's quite a workout).

My attitude tends to be “whatever”. After all, I'm a meditator. I should be able to handle whatever bullshit gets thrown at me.

    And, honestly, I can.

Doesn't mean I always like it, though.

  • Canada is the best 🍁

It has come to my attention that in Canada, they love ketchup even more than in the US.

I want to make it clear that I am not a friend of ketchup. I'll eat it once in a while, under very special circumstances, but that's rare.

I've also learned that Canadians put it on grilled cheese and Kraft macaroni and cheese (which they call “Kraft dinner”). I'll just let that soak in for a second.

Sriracha is a far better condiment. I don't see how this can be up for debate.

It's spicy, it's flavorful, and it's not something you'll find in a pump at McDonald's. This makes it classy.

For breakfast this morning, I had an omelette with sriracha on top. I would never do this with ketchup. I have more self-respect than that.

I don't mean to cause an international incident here.

Just wanted to set the record straight.

By the way: if you haven't bought my meditation course No ProblemI want to know why. This isn't a guilt trip. It's market research. Please reply and let me know. It will save me a lot of guesswork.

  • You can help me stop obsessing

Hey, if you weren’t aware, I have a meditation course. It’s called No Problem, and it’s awesome. If you really cared about me, you would buy it. If you haven’t bought it yet, I’m curious to know why. Reply to this email and let me know. I’m literally spending hours and hours trying to figure out the answer to this question on my own, and it would be super-helpful if you could just tell me (there’s no wrong answer).

Now that I’ve got that out of the way, here’s the email I meant to send:

This is an exclusive cult. You’re a special person for being a member. You should feel special, too.

At the same time, I’m a human being. That means I’m never satisfied. I always want more.

More cult members, more money, more attention, more fame, more power.

This is how human beings work. We’re never satisfied.

We learned as kids that we shouldn’t acknowledge this fact, that there’s something wrong with being unsatisfied.

We should be grateful, appreciative, content with what we have, right?

Let me know if you figure that one out.

And, even if you are unsatisfied, you’re not supposed to complain about it, right?

    Yeah, OK.

I’m not interested. I’m just a whiny cult leader.

  • Why I’m leaving 90 Instagram comments per day

I've been leaving tons of comments on Instagram lately.

    It's so much work.

(By “tons”, I mean 90, every day. THAT'S A LOT. Yeah, I know.)

“Michael, what on Earth would possess you to leave 90 comments on Instagram every day?”

Answer: The fact that it's hard.

(By the way, I haven't yet gotten up to 90. Yesterday was the most, at 80.)

Look, this is the edge of my abilities. RIGHT HERE. I can't leave 90 comments. I've tried, several times. It hasn't worked.

But, I'm pretty sure it will work eventually. Today, probably.

Then, I'll be a different person. Instead of someone who can't leave 90 comments per day, I will be someone who has left 90 comments in one day.

    See? It's a simple shift. Black-and-white.

What doors will this open up for me? Who knows? Not me, that's for sure. But, I'll have a new super-power. (See ya later, suckers.)

It's about knowing what you want and taking it. It's not any more complicated than that.

Meditation takes you to the edge of your abilities pretty quickly. Especially if you do it the right way. I can't promise you anything if you do it the wrong way, though. Sorry. [[THIS COURSE]] will help you see the light.
