There are two types of musicians

Piano teachers can be pretty set in their ways, and a lot of them are having a very hard time right now.

I see them complaining on Facebook, wondering how to teach lessons online.

They have no experience with this. They don’t know what kind of webcam to use, what kind of microphone to use, what software to use.

Many of them are even expressing shock upon realizing for the first time that their students’ pianos are a half-step out of tune.

They just want things to go back to normal.

I don’t know when normal will return, or in what form it will return. Yeah, that’s weird, and can be scary. In the meantime, we’re stuck in this limbo of uncertainty.

That’s a fact. We’re stuck here for now. Unfortunately, there’s nothing anyone can do about that.

No matter how much you want it to go away, you can’t make it happen. You can try, but it’s bigger than you are, and you’re just wasting your energy.

Instead, it’s one of those things you just have to accept. (Sure, you also have the option of not accepting it, but again, that’s a waste of energy, and can easily make your life worse).

It doesn’t surprise me that these teachers are struggling so much. That lack of acceptance is evident in the way they teach piano, as well. Your approach to music practice is going to be indicative of your entire approach to life.

If you practice acceptance in music, you will have developed a skill that you can apply in other areas.

This is not easy to do, but it’s totally worth it.

I wish more musicians had the ability to take things as they come, even when what comes is not what is desired. It’s a real game-changer.
